The Plainview library presents two showings, 3 and 7:30 p.m., of Philomena. A world-weary political journalist picks up the story of a woman’s search for her son, who was taken away from her decades ago after she became pregnant and was forced to live in a convent. Starring Judi Dench, Steve Coogan and Sophie Kennedy Clark.

Decorating The White House
Former White House and State Dinner decorator Frank Lazzaro’s designs graced the tables of three presidents, the Queen of England, U.S. governors and an Emperor during his career in Washington D.C. Join him at the Plainview library as he displays photographs of his work and shares his unique experiences while working in the White House. Event is at 2 p.m. in the auditorium.

Caregiver Support Group
The Mid-Island Y JCC hosts a professionally led group for primary caregivers and others providing care to a client or loved one at 10:15 a.m. Participants are encouraged to share feelings and challenges and begin to realize they are not alone. The group offers support and strategies for coping as participants develop the knowledge, resources and strength to meet their care giving challenges.

The Plainview library hosts Joel Zelnik and his hottest musicians as they make the stage come alive with swing, 50’s rock, soul, Motown, contemporary, ethnic and move. The concert takes place at 8 p.m. in the auditorium.

Beyond Bereavement
The Mid-Island Y JCC, 45 Manetto Hill Rd., presents a professionally led group designed for widows and widowers who have already been through an initial loss of spouse bereavement group, but are still looking for a supportive environment. Reminiscing With Veterans
Veterans are asked to join the Mid-Island Y JCC at 10:30 a.m. for Keeping Healthy and Reminiscing with Veterans. This is a bi-monthly discussion group led by Kelly Soel, RN. Each session features tips for keeping active and healthy, reminiscences of common experiences, current events and other topics of interest.

Movie: The Intouchables
The Plainview library presents two showings, 3 and 7:30 p.m., of The Intouchables. When he becomes a paraplegic after a paragliding accident, an aristocrat hires a young man from the projects to be his caretaker. Starring Francois Cluzet, Omar Sy and Anne Le Ny.
Back To School Bookends
This program at the Plainview library is for tweens and teens entering grades five through 12. Attendees will paint paper mache bookends using a marbleizing technique. Three different colors of paint along with brushes and feathers will be used. Event takes place from 7 to 8 p.m. in downstairs meeting room A.

Blood Drive
Give blood and save a neighbor at the Plainview library from 1:30 to 7:40 p.m. All donors will receive a pair of tickets to a Mets game. Only two percent of Long Islanders donate blood, compared to five percent nationwide. More than 800 pints of blood are needed every day to meet the needs of patients in more than 50 Long Island hospitals. You could save three lives with one donation. Donate blood and receive New York Mets Tickets.
Writing Your Memories
The Mid-Island Y JCC presents Writing Your Memories Workshop at 3:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity to write down experiences and share them with a younger generation. Share the stories of your life with children, grandchildren and friends. It is a wonderful chance to create a legacy of stories for your loved ones.

Take A Book On Vacation
The Plainview library is offering residents the opportunity for long term summer book loans. Through Aug. 30, residents can take up to 10 books out for long term loans without an overdue fee. If you return five books, you may borrow an additional five. For more information, call 516-938-0077.

This 12-step self-help group offers help and support to those who have clutter problems in their homes or workplace.
