Motorists are advised that night time single travel lane closures are now underway on the Northern State Parkway (NSP) in the vicinity of South Oyster Bay Road Exit 36 and NY Route 135/Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway Exit 36A in Syosset, in the Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County. A single westbound travel lane is being closed on the NSP at NY Route 135, and a single eastbound and a single westbound NSP travel lane is being closed at South Oyster Bay Road each night between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., Monday through Friday. No travel lanes will be closed on Friday or Monday of the Labor Day weekend. These nightly closures are expected to continue until the end of September.
These NSP travel lane closures are needed to improve the safety of motorists by extending the NY Route 135 northbound entrance ramp to westbound NSP, the South Oyster Bay Road southbound entrance ramp to westbound NSP, and the South Oyster Bay northbound entrance ramp to Eastbound NSP. These are three of 15 locations that will be improved under NYSDOT’s $4.8 million motorist safety improvement project.
Motorists are being warned in advance of the closing via INFORM signs but are strongly urged to use alternate routes such as the Long Island Expressway (LIE), or they will experience delays. Drivers who cannot use alternate routes are reminded to drive carefully through the work zone, follow the posted detour signs, and obey the posted construction speed limit, for their safety as well as the safety of the highway work crew. As with most road and bridge projects, this construction work may be cancelled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather.
