Laundromat Opens On Prospect Avenue

IMG_8535Town and county officials, community leaders and local residents welcomed the newest addition to Prospect Avenue at a ribbon cutting ceremony Aug. 27. New Cassel Laundromat, a self serve laundry facility is the first of its kind on Prospect Avenue since the implementation of the Overlay District in 2006.

“This laundromat is a wonderful addition to the New Cassel community and was a priority during the original visioning sessions,” said Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth.  “The Laundromat provides residents with an easily accessible location on Prospect Avenue as well as operation hours that will fit everyone’s schedules.”

Councilwoman Viviana Russell was responsible for securing the necessary zoning rights to construct the new laundromat.

“When residents expressed their desire for a laundromat in the New Cassel community, we began looking to revise the Overlay District to attract and accommodate a broader and more diverse grouping of businesses,” said Councilwoman Russell.

In the last few years, Prospect Avenue has also seen the additions of  affordable housing, a restaurant, a family dental practice and a full service grocery store.

The 2,400 square-foot business was opened to the public on August 1st and is located at 1008 Prospect Avenue in New Cassel.  Benoit and Natacha Juene, the husband-and-wife owners of the New Cassel Laundromat, also own a cell phone store on Prospect Avenue.
