There is a new psychic medium on the North Shore of Long Island to compete with the original “Long Island Medium,” Theresa Caputo. Her name is Mary Drew and she has been working for more than a decade doing private readings. Recently, Drew has expanded her horizons and has been conducting readings at restaurants, public events and fundraisers.
“I discovered my ability to speak and to hear the deceased voices when I was 10 years old,” said Drew, who grew up in Brookville and now resides in Glen Cove. “The first deceased person I had an encounter with was my grandmother and it was a very profound experience, to say the least.”
Since that initial experience, she said that she has literally been in contact with thousands of people who have passed on to the other side.
“I see them, I hear them, I feel them, that’s the only way I can explain it. It is still frightening to me when it happens but I’ve grown to live with it.”
Divorced and raising four kids on her own, Drew worked at several jobs to make ends meet. One of those jobs was a self- employed landscaper and that is where she first met Lauren Wasserfall, her current manager.
“I introduced myself to her and one of the first things she said to me was that my mother and she shared the same first name,” said Wasserfall. “I was absolutely floored. I never met this woman in my life and for her to know that, I knew she had a special talent.”
Wasserfall has helped Drew to reveal her talents by coordinating events for her on the orth shore. She has done public readings in Bayville, Glen Cove, Sea Cliff and recently at Jack Halyard’s Bar & Grill in Oyster Bay and in Glen Head, where she shared her gift with restaurant-goers at JW’s Public House.
“I walk around the room and I’m in a zone,” said Drew. “I feel the energy the spirits are giving to me and I let that energy draw me to a certain person.”
She said that when she shares information with someone from their dead relative she can’t be vague in her dialogue and tries to be as detailed as possible.
“I also try to have a good bedside manner with each person because I do not want to say something that might devastate someone in a room full of people.”
To the skeptics out there, Drew said that when she holds a private or public reading she does not know any details about anybody besides their first names.
“People’s information is too easily accessible today so I make a point of not knowing anything about the people I’m reading besides their first names.”
Her next event will be held at The View Grill in Glen Cove on Monday, Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m., followed by another event at JW’s Public House on Sept. 16.
