Missed the village board meeting on Sept. 4? Here are a few highlights:
The board raised the speed limit on Maple Ave. in front of St. Brigid/Our Lady of Hope to 20 mph.
97 people attended a recent tax exemption workshop at the Westbury Recreation Center. Representatives from the county Department of Assessment office helped residents file for exemptions and answered questions.
Trustee and village assessor Steve Corte will help residents with any questions regarding exemptions during the Mayor’s Office Hours, which happen 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. the second Saturday of the month, and the first and third Thursdays of the month from 5 to 7 p.m. at Village Hall, 235 Lincoln Place. Corte will help process exemptions and pass it along to the county. He asked that residents call ahead if they are coming.
The village received a CRP grant from the county to be used for a chairlift at the senior center. Another grant is pending approval and would be used to purchase two generators—one at Village Hall and the other at the Department of Public Works.
The village recently received AAA’s Gold Traffic Safety Award for their commitment to safety. Gloria Monitto, chairwoman of the village’s public safety commission, thanked the board for their interest in the safety of village residents.
The mayor thanked village attorney and deputy clerk Dwight Kraemer for his 30 years of service to the village. Kraemer will be retiring at the beginning of October.
The next board of trustees meeting will be Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall.
