The Village of East Hills hosted a Labor Day Concert at the Village Pool for residents and their guests on Sunday, Aug. 31. The concert featured star finalists from the television sensation “The Voice” Christina Grimmie and Matthew Schuler. A family barbeque took place beforehand, followed by ceremonies and a concert. Despite a sudden change in plans due to inclement weather, the event was a success.
With a capacity filled pool, and an exciting spectacular concert, Mayor Koblenz declared a new tradition was born in East Hills. “From now on we are having Labor Day Concerts poolside, during the day” declared Mayor Koblenz. “Of course, having excellent entertainers brought out the crowd. Both performers, Christina Grimmie and Matthew Schuler, are star quality. But, having the venue at the pool was a perfect setting, and from the feedback I am receiving, it was a fortuitous, fortunate choice.”
The deluge the night before required that the village exercise its option in the performers’ contracts for a rain date. A hard surface had to be found in the event the dire predictions for rain on Monday also came true. The rest is now history. The sun came out, the music played, the pool remained open for swimmers, and the audience was enthralled by two wonderful entertainers.
Perhaps the most memorable song performed by Christina Grimmie was “I Will Always Love You” originally sung by Whitney Houston. Few singers can reach those notes. Turning to Matthew Schuler’s performance, there is no doubt that one song he sang, “Hallelujah,” stood out. “It was a perfect, delightful, and wonderful way to end the summer” said Mayor Koblenz.
