Plainview multi-sport athletes Lisa Olsen, 43, Meredith Lewin, 60, and Alan End, 71, all won awards in a field of some of the best triathletes from across Long Island in the 27th annual Runner’s Edge — Town of Oyster Bay Triathlon, held in and around Oyster Bay’s Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park on Aug. 23.
Olsen completed the ½ mile swim in Oyster Bay Harbor, 15-kilometer bike ride through Oyster bay Cove and Laurel Hollow, and five-kilometer run up to the Planting Fields Arboretum and back to the finish in Roosevelt Park in one hour, 27 minutes and 23 seconds to earn the forth place award in the women’s 40-44 age group. Lewin (2:15:53) won fifth place honors in the women’s 60-64 age group, while End (2:23:07) was the fifth place award winner in the men’s 70-74 age group.
Congratulations were also doled out to all the local youngsters ages 8-13 who successfully completed the Runner’s Edge-Town of Oyster Bay Junior Triathlon the following day, including Justine Haime, Jack Saueracker and Emily Soffer of Old Bethpage; as well as Rebecca Trentacost, Claire Ackerman, Benjamin Levine, Jaron Plotkin, Megan Jasinski, Adam Budiansky, Sivan Plotkin, Jared Budiansky, James Caporuscio and Kaitlyn Jasinski of Plainview, Each of the young athletes earned a finishers medal by completing the 200 yard swim, 2.5 mile bike ride and one mile run, all within the confines of Roosevelt Park.
The to lend their support to the athletes were Nassau County Legislator Rose Marie Walker, Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Michelle Johnson, Town Clerk Jim Altadonna and state Assemblyman Michael Montesano.
