A local resident is taking the reins of the Nassau BOCES Board.
Plainview’s Eric B. Schultz was elected president of the Nassau BOCES Board during its organization meeting on July 10. He is the sixth person to serve as board president in the agency’s 47-year history. Rounding out the Board’s leadership team are Vice President Susan Bergtraum of East Williston UFSD, District Clerk Deborah Coates of East Meadow UFSD and Vice District Clerk Michael Weinick of Merrick UFSD.
“I would like to thank my fellow Board members for their trust,” Schultz said. “Our agency is dedicated to providing the programs and services that our districts need to help all of the more than 225,000 students in this county achieve success. We will continue to hold to that mission and move forward with even more innovative initiatives.”
Schultz joined the Board in 2001 and has served as vice president and district clerk. He was a member of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District Board of Education from July 1988 to June 2000, where he held the positions of president and vice president. Since 1998, he has headed his own law firm specializing in civil litigation and real estate law.
The Plainview resident has presided over and presented at numerous state and local conferences, and he is a past member and chairperson of the New York State School Boards Association Resolutions Committee. He was also a member of the executive committee of the Nassau-Suffolk School Boards Association from 1993 to 2000 and received the association’s Distinguished School Board Member award in 2000.
