Farmingdale State College’s women’s tennis team opened the 2014 season with an 8-1 victory over John Jay College (0-1) on Sept. 3. The Rams (1-0) held a 2-1 advantage after doubles play before sweeping the singles matches.
Senior Alex Bentz of Massapequa Park and sophomore Michelle Fredericks of Farmingdale posted an 8-0 win at #2 doubles, while freshman Madison Schrader and senior Amanda Vecchio posted an 8-5 win.
In singles play, senior Jessica Sickles of Massapequa Park won 6-2, 6-4 in the no. 1 spot and sophomore Priscilla Signore grabbed a three-set victory (3-6, 6-0, 10-8). In the third singles spot, another win came from Bentz, while Fredericks (no. 4), Tatiana Rosamilia (no. 5) and Denise Liguori (no. 6) rounded out the final three spots with W’s.
