The Town of North Hempstead approved a local law that banned skateboarding, and in-line skating on certain Manhasset streets. According to Councilwoman Anna Kaplan who represents the area, her office has received numerous calls regarding skateboarding on the steep Manhasset streets. In the interest of public safety and protecting pedestrians and drivers, they have prohibits skateboarding on Deepdale Drive, Great Oak Road and Quaker Ridge Road in South Strathmore. Scooters, in-line skates and similar devices also fall under the ban.
The Village of Plandome enacted a similar ban earlier this year in June. The Town of North Hempstead maintains a skate park in Manorhaven.
