Thank You To All For The Friday Night Promenades

As we end the Friday Night Promenades on Seventh Street, I would like to thank everyone who was able to join in the festivities these Friday evenings on Seventh Street.  I know that all who attended, had a wonderful time and I look forward to more of these evenings in the future and to seeing you there again.  Thank you to everyone who made these nights possible.

Congratulations To George Roth And Richie Anderson

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of attending the “Tullamore Park Old Timers Day” which was a day that was filled with many activities. I was pleased to present proclamations to George Roth and Richie Anderson who both were honored because of the many children that they mentored in Garden City.

George began working for the village’s recreation department in 1965 and was a playground director from 1967-1976. George was known for his innovation, creativity, coaching and mentoring and was the architect of one of the most successful summer recreation programs that the village has ever offered.

Richie began working for the Recreation Department in 1966 and is still involved in some capacity today. Richie has worked at just about every playground and winter program that the recreation department has ever offered and his enthusiasm, energy and caring way has influenced generations of children and their families. It was nice to see these two men as well as the many people who came to celebrate this occasion. I want to thank George and Richie for their time and talents that they have afforded our village.

Constitution Week Sept. 17-23

The Colonel Aaron Ogden Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution has asked me to proclaim the week of Sept. 17 through 23 as “Constitution Week” in Garden City.

Our nation’s Constitution, adopted September 17, 1787, provided a fundamental document for freedom and independence, which no other country in the world has been able to emulate. We all have cause to pause and to reflect on this great heritage given to us by our forefathers. Residents are urged to fly the flag all week in observance.

On Monday, Sept. 8, the village began issuing resident railroad parking permits for the 2014-15 year.
