Serving Oyster Bay and the rest of Long Island since 1990, Periwinkles is an Oyster Bay business on Audrey Avenue that assists with event planning, staging and staffing and catering a multitude of different events. Periwinkles was started by Pat Spafford, who was encouraged to take her passion and make it a career.
“I was raising a family and doing this part-time,” said Spafford. “One of my clients encouraged me to make it full-time. Most of my clientele was from Oyster Bay so I settled here. I have a huge affection for the people and the place. It’s great that I have been successful here for so long.”
Spafford and her team prepare all the food themselves and work one-on-one with clients to bring the clients’ different ideas to reality. In the past, they have catered events such as fundraisers, weddings, communions, birthdays, and many more. The company is known as one of New York’s leading gourmet and event planning companies. Their signature dishes are their homemade chicken salad, shrimp salad, and triple chocolate fudge brownies.
The Periwinkles storefront on Audrey Avenue is where clients can go to inquire about catering for different events. It also has a small café that is a popular Oyster Bay lunch spot.
Many come in daily to try their salads and sandwiches.

In addition to the storefront café, they also have a café that showcases their food at Oyster Bay’s historic Planting Fields Arboretum. The Periwinkles Garden Cafe is located in the park’s rustic Hay Barn and is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, serving soups, sandwiches, salads, and their homemade potato chips. Planting Field’s scenery makes the café a wonderful place to have a relaxing lunch on a beautiful summer day. The Hay Barn can also be rented out through Periwinkles for events.
“It’s really a great building,” commented Spafford. “It is the second biggest building on the property and was originally where the Coe’s stored their horse. It’s beautiful inside.”
