Not The Law Of The Sea

Ireland and maritime and admiralty law is the subject of the talk at the Irish Cultural Society’s Oct. 1 meeting. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Garden City Library and is free and open to the public. The speaker will go back to the endlessly fascinating topic of the Titanic for the October meeting. Anyone can imagine that the legal ramifications of the sinking of this great ship must have been massive. The speaker, Garden City resident Howard McCormack will speak on the topic “The Titanic: Who Owns the Ocean Deep?” McCormack is a maritime attorney from Fordham Law School and the NYU Graduate Law School whose practice has been in maritime and admiralty international law.  He has served three years aboard an Atlantic Ocean destroyer and is a Commander in the Navy Reserves, JAGC (retired). McCormack has served as president of the Maritime Association of the United States and as an adjunct professor of law at Fordham Law where he taught admiralty and maritime law. Last October, he participated in the Comite Maritime Institute, the parent entity of all of the Maritime Law Associations of the maritime world. The meeting was held in Dublin. Those attending this meeting will be plunged into the depths of the law of the seas. At the helm will be a skilled attorney with many sea stories to tell. The Garden City Hotel is located on 60 Seventh St. For more information, please call John Walsh at 516-488-1353.
