Football season is here and the Oyster Bay-Bayville Generals held their opening day games on Sept. 14. Here are the results:
5 & 6 Peanuts:
The Peanuts opened the season vs. the Seaford Broncos and came out on the losing end of a hard fought game. The Lil Generals opened the game on offense and quarterback Rodney Hill, Jr. marched the offense down the field and completed the drive with a touchdown pass to Francesco Allocca. Yes, the Peanuts have a potent air attack with Hill Jr. going two for two for 26 yards. The defense played strong with Allocca leading the team in tackles with help on the defensive line from first-year players Dean Wolfe and Anthony Pelchuck.
7 & 8 Midgets:
The 7- & 8-year-old Generals marched into Uniondale to take on the Knights. The score board may have shown a loss, but these Generals performed well. The offensive line was driven by Declan Trainor, Joseph Gotti, Owen Parlente, Jake Hargrave, Matthew Duras, JR Underberg and Eric Watts. The Generals’ tight ends, Liam Gorney and Ashton Polatos, fought hard all game. The Generals’ tanks in the backfield were Matthew Beggs, Michael DiLorenzo, Tyler Ganito, Jayden Marshall and Jagger Romano. The General over center Colin O’Toole stayed calm under fire all game.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Generals watched their rookies Jesse Firestone, Anthony Izquierdo, Michael Scores, Dylan Romano and James Doolan step up and make some great plays. At the end of the game, the Generals knew how hard they worked and how far they’ve come since Aug. 4. The Generals look forward to their home opener this Sunday against Floral Park.
9 & 10 Ponies:
The OBB Generals (Ponies) opened their season with an exciting shootout victory (27-20) over the Hicksville Crusaders. Tighe Mullarkey led an aerial attack passing for over 100 yards while Kyle Marshall proved unstoppable on the ground scoring three touchdowns.
The fireworks started early and often with Mullarkey returning the opening kickoff 60 yards before getting knocked out of bounds at the 5. However, the Generals could not punch the ball in and turned it over on downs to Hicksville. One play later, Hicksville scored on a 95-yard run to go up 7-0.
Mullarkey and Marshall, veterans of numerous high scoring games, remained unfazed. Mullarkey spread the defense with several passes to Mitch Harmantas and Michael Barbera which then allowed Marshall to run free through the Hicksville defense. When Hicksville keyed on Marshall, Tommy Beggs stepped up for a pounding ground attack through the middle. Hicksville then tightened the middle of their defense opening the passing lanes for a clutch catch by Mikey Barbera for a crucial extra point to put the Generals up 27-13. The unsung heroes of the offensive, the Generals linemen, anchored by center James Ryan, Francis Olivieri, Nick Capozzi and Michael Palagonia, dominated Hicksville throughout the game.
Defensively, the Generals were led by a spectacular interception by Andrew Watts, which stopped a driving Hicksville team at midfield. The fired up Generals defense continued their containment of Hicksville with key plays made by Bryce Kipnes, Dallas Rodriguez, Danny Buffa and Dylan Beggs.
Cheer Team:
There was no denying that the Oyster Bay-Bayville Generals had cheerleaders on their side for their first win of the season. While away in Hicksville, the cheerleaders came out in record-setting numbers to support the boys in white and gold. The girls came dressed to the nines in uniforms that were brought together with brand new pom poms and fantastic new hair bows.
These girls shouted and cheered on the Generals for each quarter as the boys played their hearts out. The boys didn’t let the crowd down as the cheerleaders shouted for touchdowns. The varsity cheerleaders from Locust Valley High School put the General cheerleaders up in stunts to show the boys just how proud they are of their outstanding win.
