Historical Society Celebrates 40

The Garden City Historical Society is gearing up for a really big celebration. In 2015, the Society will mark the 40th anniversary of its founding, and the 10th anniversary of the opening of The Garden City Historical Society Museum.

To observe these two significant milestones and to further the Society’s capital campaign to restore the exterior of the museum building, the Society is planning a special event on May 14, 2015 at the Garden City Hotel. Early next year, an invitation to attend will be extended to residents and businesses in the village. The gala will include an open bar and full buffet, with music, mystery guests, a live auction and raffles.

Most important, the society is taking this auspicious occasion to honor three individuals who have made marked contributions to the Society: Joanne K. Adams, a longtime society member, board of trustees member, past president and now Trustee Emeritus; Denise Dunn, a co-founder of The Garden City Historical Society; and New York State Senator Kemp Hannon, a longtime member and friend of the Society who helped make possible the restoration and preservation of the interior first floor and the creation of an Archives Room, which enabled the society to open its museum at 109 Eleventh Street.

During the summer months, society members began a series of planning meetings for the May celebration. The events committee asks any society member or person interested in getting involved with this venture to call Society Secretary Gloria Jones at 516-248-0042, email the society at thegardencityhistorical@verizon.net

society@verizon.net, or stop in the A.T. Stewart Exchange and tell a staff member that you are interested. The society welcomes volunteers and could especially use people with an interest in marketing and sales, printing and developing creative ideas to bring support for this event. Any assistance and expertise is greatly appreciated.

Details about the Society’s anniversary celebration will be unfolding over the coming months. For more information or updates, please visit gardencityhistoricalsociety.org
