Stay In Shape Locally At Diamond Fitness

Diamond Fitness held its grand opening on Saturday, Sept. 6. Members of the Historic Oyster Bay-East Norwich Chamber of Commerce came out to meet Wendy Goldstein, her staff and her re-invented gym at 138 South St.

Goldstein said she was touched by the warmth of the people who came into the gym to welcome her, even before the official opening. “People came in to say hello, saying they had heard that the gym had changed hands. It warms my heart,” she said.

Goldstein attended a chamber meeting and is now a member. Nassau County Legislator Donald McKenzie helped Goldstein cut the red ribbon as chamber members Walter Imperatore and Michele Browner cheered the opening along with staff members and friends.

Goldstein is offering one hour of free personal training for all new members and renewals. The gym’s hours make it easy to drop by Monday through Thursday, from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There is something very amazing about our bodies, when it comes to fitness; just the way your brain learns, so too do your muscles. Practice and you become perfect. All you have to do is commit yourself to the task, says Goldstein.

“I love the gym. It’s a magic place where people do something good for themselves. They are taking care of themselves, by carving out some time for fitness.”

People at all levels of fitness are welcome. “I can adapt exercise to any fitness level. In fact, crunches are not done in the old-time way. Today you just bring up your shoulders off the mat; that’s all you have to do to work your abs. Almost anyone can work at the gym, at their personal level, with their doctor’s clearance,” she added. Membership is a monthly commitment, although she works closely with students whom she knows have differing schedules.

“Fitness is such an important part of good health and we are committed to the notion that this local gym should be the go-to place for people who live and work in the area,” she says.

As a result there are high school students busy working in the weight room as adults and seniors use the array of equipment including treadmills, ellipticals, recumbent and upright bikes and even an Olympic lifting platform. There is a bounce in the floor that helps protect the athlete’s knees.

There are personal trainers on staff to help you plan your exercise program and currently, all new members and renewals are offered an hour of free personal training.

Goldstein is not new to the area. She is a marketing and PR specialist who worked at C.W. Post for six years. She comes to fitness naturally. She has always been active in sports. Her enthusiasm is catching. For more information call 516-628-3488.
