The Sewanhaka Central High School District announced the probationary appointment of T.J. Burke as the New Hyde Park Memorial High School athletic director and physical education chairperson at a recent board of education meeting.
Burke comes to the district from Long Beach High School and has a tentative start date of Oct. 27. He also worked at Holy Trinity High School. Sewanhaka
Superintendent Dr. Ralph Ferrie announced the appointment and said he is pleased to have Burke on board.
“I am thrilled T.J. is here,” Dr. Ferrie said. “He was a very successful coach and teacher in Long Beach and we welcome him to our administrative team.”
The meeting also included student recognition, with the superintendent and board of education members honoring David Delva of Elmont Memorial High
School, Mitch Calandra of Floral Park Memorial High School, Kacie Candela of H. Frank Carey High School, Camille Bangug of New Hyde Park Memorial High
School and Omar Hameed of Sewanhaka High School, for creating and presenting an inspirational message for teachers during the district’s opening day ceremony.
“It was such a thrill for me to work with these young adults,” Dr. Ferrie said. “I can’t tell you how much I appreciate what you did.”
Board of Education President David Fowler described the students’ presentation as unbelievable.
“Keep up the wonderful work,” Fowler said. “This is what makes it worthwhile to sit on this board. These are some of the best and brightest our district has to offer.”
