Maserati Looking In New Hyde Park

Maserati is planning to open a service center in New Hyde Park to compliment its new Great Neck showroom. The owner, Stuart Hayim, is looking to couple the 433 Jericho Tpke. opening in December with the Great Neck launch.

Maserati will conduct sales, repairs and inspect vehicles at the site. Bobb Howards Automotive previously operated at the location.

Maserati franchisee Stuart Hayim plans to renovate the building, which would cost $500,000, he said. Maserati purchased the property for nearly $1 million. Hayim appeared before the

New Hyde Park Village Board, who reserved its decision on the plan last week.

“As long as the conditions are reasonable and it’s something we can do,” Hayim’s legal counsel Diana Prevete said during the hearing. “We’re happy to do it to make it a good situation for [Maserati] and the residents.”

Residents at the meeting wanted a taller fence to stand behind the property, but Maserati would need to go before New Hyde Park’s zoning board for approval.

“The code allows for up to a six foot fence on the rear of a commercial property,” Mayor Robert Lofaro said. “If they want to install a new fence it has to meet the code.”

Hayim would not oppose building an 8-foot fence.

“I have no objection,” he said. “If Maserati says they have no problem with a front fence, then I have no problem. As far as the rear fence, I’m happy to do it.”

Hayim said Maserati expressed interest in New Hyde Park because of its proximity to the coming Great Neck site. Maserati initially planned to use its expanded Plainview location, but balked at the distance from the future site.

“They didn’t think the showroom in Great Neck was close enough to Plainview, which is why we looked in New Hyde Park,” Hayim said. “They wanted to open within a seven mile radius of a main site.”

Lofaro indicated a deeper review is needed as to not set a precedent.

“We’re reviewing the case, but things we may approve on your application may have an impact on other repair shops that come before us so we have to do our due diligence,” Lofaro said.
