Learn And Play Paddle Tennis

The recreation and parks department will offer beginner level platform tennis lessons at Community Park’s Platform Courts. This five-week course will offer the basic instruction and will be taught by certified platform instructor Sue Tarzian. Each class will be 1.5 hours in length. The cost of this program is $187.50. Classes begin the week of Nov. 5. The following classes will be offered:

Beginners – Wednesdays at 7 p.m.

Advanced Beginners – Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.

This program is for beginners only and participants must be Garden City residents. To register, please visit the recreation office at 108 Rockaway Ave. Space is limited so please register early.

Junior Team Tennis Tryouts

Junior Team Tennis try-outs will be held at the Garden City Community Park Tennis Facility on Saturday, Nov. 1 from 2:30-5 p.m. for the 14 and under age group (10 years old being the minimum age) and on Sunday, Nov. 2 from 1-3 pm for players ages 14–18. Anyone attending tryouts must be a resident of the Incorporated Village of Garden City between the ages of 10 and 18.

Each person will participate in a tryout focusing on groundstrokes, serve and game playing to access their abilities. Expect to stay for no more than an hour. If your child makes one of the teams, they are expected to attend weekend practices throughout the school year as well as tennis matches against other tennis groups. There is a team fee of $395 if your child is chosen for a team. All players will also be required to become a member of USTA tennis. For further information, please call Sue Tarzian at 516-483-2525.

Adult Dance Performance Group Now Registering

The recreation and parks department offers an adult dance group that works on jazz and contemporary moves and leads up to a performance in a Dance Company Showcase. Whether you are a beginner dance student or someone who danced as a child and would like to try again, this program will help you achieve your goals. Classes will be held on Saturday mornings beginning Saturday, Nov. 8. Each class is 55 minutes long and the session will run through May. The cost of this program will be $220.

High School Jazz Class Added To Dance Conservatory

Dance Conservatory Director Felicia Lovaglio has decided to add a jazz class for students in 9th through 12th grades who are residents of the Incorporated Village of Garden City. This 55-minute class will be held on Saturdays at 4 p.m. beginning on Saturday, Nov. 8. The cost of this 20-week class will be $200. Preregistration is necessary by visiting the recreation and parks office at 108 Rockaway Ave.

With the fall sports season upon us, the department of recreation and parks would like to remind all residents that pets are not allowed in any neighborhood parks, Community Park, or St. Paul’s fields. Non compliance with this rule will result in the issuance of appearance tickets.

Registration For The Online Registration Option Began Oct. 31

Garden City’s Department of Recreation and Parks will offer the option of online registration with credit card payment beginning with its winter programs in early December.

In order for a family to use the online registration option, the family will first need to visit the recreation and parks office at 108 Rockaway Ave. to verify residency and their family information and receive their password.  A list of instructions as to how to use the website will be included.

Residents may visit the office for family verification and password information beginning Oct. 31. The recreation and parks office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
