Greenvale resident Trevor Cox was recently inducted as an Eagle Scout into Troop 71. Also inducted were Brendan Watson and Steven Squillante, both of Manhasset.
Fellow scouts, family members, Boy Scout Council and district representatives, plus such local dignitaries as State Senator Jack Martins, State Assemblyman Chuck Lavine, State Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel, Town Councilman, Peter Zuckerman, Town Councilwoman, Dina De Giorgio, Nassau County Legislature, Richard Nicolello, and Greenvale Civic Association President John Fabio filled the Plandome Village Hall to celebrate these young men for earning Boys Scouting’s highest honor.
After acknowledging the Eagle Oath and Charge, Cox and the other honorees remarked on their trail to Eagle Scout, while thanking all those who assisted them with their Eagle Service Project.
Cox began scouting eleven years ago. In the Boy Scouts, he has earned over fifty merit badges and was Senior Patrol Leader, leading 70 scouts at their weekly meetings and monthly outings. Currently, he serves as a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 71. His Eagle Service Project was completed over the summer.
A senior at Roslyn High School, Cox, refurbished the library at Adventures In Learning, an after-school educational and enrichment program in Manhasset. Cox led a group of volunteers who repaired and painted all the bookshelves, painted the walls and closets, and reupholstered the chairs. Many Roslyn High School students volunteered to help make his project a success: Phoebe Cox, Basia Kurlender, Curtis Pak, Daniel Pritzker, Bianca Rabbie, Diana Jeong Ro and Tina Wu were among the participants.
Cox raised the donations and materials needed to cover every aspect of the project. Among the generous donors were Home Depot, Willis Paints, Preferred Floors of Whitestone and the Kurtz and Zauderer families.
