Cops: 2 Queens Men Killed in Southern State Crash

Two Queens men were killed in a one-car crash on the Southern State Parkway early Tuesday morning, state police said.

The two men, Joseph Kelly and Justin Johnson, both 19, were traveling eastbound in a 2005 Dodge Neon at 12:35 a.m. when the vehicle, operated by Kelly, crashed into the Franklin Avenue overpass, according to State Police Senior Investigator Joseph DeMaria.

DeMaria said the two Laurelton, Queens men were pronounced dead at the scene.

The early indication is that the car was traveling at excessive speeds, DeMaria said. At this time, investigators don’t believe drugs or alcohol was a factor, he added.

Police closed that section of the parkway for most of the morning. The road was reopened at 8 a.m., DeMaria said.
