Catherine Keitz of Manhasset passed away on Oct. 23 after six months in the hospital and rehabilitation. Beloved wife for nearly 51 years of John F. Keitz, mother of John F. Jr. and Matthew S. Grandmother of Fearghus and Conor Keitz. Sister of Ambrose Godfrey and Briget Egan of Ireland.
She was predeceased by 10 other brothers and sisters. She was born in Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo, Ireland and emigrated to the U.S. in her late teens after completing a children’s nursing course in Dublin. She spent her life as a homemaker, mother and lover of children. She spent a number of years as a CCD teacher at St. Mary’s School, specializing in teaching special needs children. She established a group of parent volunteers to work with the students in the playground at lunch and recess. She enjoyed cooking and many times throughout her life, if a friend or relative was sick or dying, she would cook dinner and deliver it to the family.
Her Funeral Mass was Oct. 27 at St. Mary’s Church. Please make donations to St. Francis Hospital Foundation in her memory.
