Manhasset Sportsmen Champs

BaseballMen_111414AThe Manhasset Men’s Softball League championship series was played at Manhasset High School on Sunday, Nov. 9 in warm weather conditions. The series featured two of the oldest clubs in the league. The Sambucas had a magical post-season run to the series, even more remarkable in that they prevailed in the first two play-off rounds with only the minimum nine players appearing. They came to the series having finished fourth in the regular season.
The Sportsmen, per usual, finished in first place in the regular season, and returned to the championship series for at least the eighth consecutive year.
Last year, the Mid-Life Crisis took the Sportsmen to a deciding third game before succumbing to the Sportsmen’s relentless bats. This year the Sportsmen were more efficient, taking the resurgent Bucas in two games.
The Manhasset Men’s Softball League has run a softball league in Manhasset for 40 years. Double-headers are played on Sunday mornings at local fields, with the season beginning in April. The six clubs in the league are always looking for fresh players from Manhasset. Some level of experience is required. Anyone interested in playing should contact commissioner Tom Maimone (tommaimone@aol.com).
