Farmingdale High School student Urooba Abid, the head of the Girls Learn Chapter of Farmingdale High School Ambassadors’ Club, recently attended the Girls Speak Out forum held at the United Nations headquarters in New York City. The 2nd annual Girls Speak Out forum was held in conjunction with Canada, Turkey, Peru and girls’ right activist groups: Working Group on Girls and Girls Learn International.
The event featured multi-media performances, highlighting the personal stories of girls from around the world, who demonstrate the tenacity, courage and strength in the fight for their rights and freedom from oppression. Students gave presentations in the form of poetry, songs and stories. They represented the realities faced by girls around the world. The forum was organized to inspire the participants to unify and actively join in the global fight for the rights of girls all over the world.
