The glamorous opening reception of the Nassau County Museum of Art was the place to be last night as philanthropists and executives alike toured the collections of China Then And Now. Also on view were Long Island Collects – the arts of China; Louis Comfort Tiffany – Works on Paper: and Gavin Rain – Contemporary Collectors Gallery.
The evening began with patrons viewing the exhibits with live music setting the tone for the event and delicious Asian cuisine catered by Pearl East that provided a delicious repast for the senses to transport you to the land far off in China. Board members and patrons gathered for the opening remarks of the curator, exhibition director and the president of the Nassau Museum of Art.
China Then and Now brings together exemplary Chinese works of art from the classical, early modern and contemporary periods. The exhibition explores three millennia of one of the world’s most important artistic traditions from the perspective of American collectors on Long Island, such as Childs and Frances Frick and Dr. Arthur M. Sackler.
The exhibition will run from Nov. 22 through March 8, 2015 and is generously sponsored by HSBC Private Bank.
The Nassau County Museum of Art is located at One Museum Dr. Roslyn Harbor. The museum is open from Tuesday through Sunday. Admission is $10 or free for members. For more information call 516-484-3917.
