The 7th Annual Rick Bailey Memorial Turkey Bowl, flag football tournament at MacArthur High School, will be held on Saturday, Nov. 29 followed by an open-bar reception at Mulcahy’s, 3232 Railroad Ave. in Wantagh. The Richard J. Bailey Memorial Fund supports local charities, community members and funds the Rick Bailey Memorial Scholarship. Cost is $50 per person. Faithful Families St. Nicholas Craft Night will be held on Friday, Dec. 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the school at St. Bernard’s on Hempstead Tpke. Families with children age 2-12 will meet the saint and learn the history, the connection to Christmas and gift giving. Make advent and Christmas arts and crafts. Free snacks and candy canes.

Breakfast with Santa…why fight the crowds at the mall to get a minute or two with Santa this Christmas season when you can enjoy a leisurely hot breakfast with him and take all the pictures you want with family and friends? Everyone’s favorite jolly red-suited holiday icon Santa Claus will be visiting A Taste of Home Bakery at 1992 North Jerusalem Rd., North Bellmore for breakfast throughout December. In addition to a delicious hot breakfast with family and friends, you’ll be able to take pictures with Mr. Claus. Santa will be at A Taste of Home Bakery on Dec. 6, 7, 13, 14 and 20 from 9 to 11 a.m. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 516-486-1670. 

 

You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown will be presented by the Temple B’Nai Torah Junior Players on Saturdays, Dec. 6 and 13 at 7 p.m. and again on Sundays, Dec. 7 and 14 at 4:30 p.m. at Temple B’Nai Torah, 2900 Jerusalem Ave. in Wantagh. The Wantagh Memorial Congregational Church has a busy Christmas season planned. On Saturday, Dec. 6 from 1 to 3 p.m., Santa will be stopping by for lunch. He’d love to have your child join him. The cost is $12 per child. Lunch will be applesauce, chicken nuggets, pizza bagels, juice, milk, hot chocolate and pudding. The cost includes a picture and a visit with Santa and a surprise gift. This event will be held in the lower level of the Parish Hall (the white building next to the church). At the same time the children are having lunch, there will be a Cookie Walk in the upper level of the Parish Hall. There will be an assortment of homemade cookies. Free will offerings greatly accepted.

The following programs regularly serve all residents of Nassau County. Call the NC Dept. of Senior Citizen Affairs 516-571-4330:

• Employment Referrals for Seniors. The NC Dept. of Senior Citizen Affairs is a resource to employers seeking qualified workers and to mature job seekers, 55+, who want assistance with employment and résumé preparation. Services are free of charge.

 

• The Foster Grandparents Program is recruiting senior volunteers to share their time and love with children in Nassau County. Volunteers receive a non-reportable stipend, transportation reimbursement, paid holidays, sick days and vacation days.

 

• If you are 55+, make your spare time count. Join the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, a national organization, and share your talents and skills at one of the many diversified placements.

 

Medicare Help For Seniors

Are you a senior who would like help paying for Medicare benefits and prescription drugs? Free assistance is only a phone call away if you qualify because of limited income. There may be a way to alleviate some of the cost of Medicare — deductibles and coinsurance, Part B premiums, prescription drug plans (Part D). Reducing monthly premiums, annual deductibles and co-payments, aiding with coverage gaps.
