Red Hot Mamas Live To Tap

On Thursday, Dec. 11, Friends of the Garden City Public Library will sponsor a free one hour “Happy Holidays” show performed by The Red Hot Mamas at 1:30 p.m. The troupe will be serving up energetic choreographed tap dancing to popular show tunes and holiday favorites while sporting dazzling costumes. The program will include “Jingle Bell Boogie,” “Sleigh Ride,” “Happy Holidays,” “Hava Nagila,” and “Let It Snow” along with audience participation. The performance will be directed and choreographed by Toni Wortman and Louise Rastu, with founder and guest choreographer and former Radio City Rockette Sandi Bloomberg. The Red Hot Mamas have been dancing in the New York area for more than 20 years. Their popularity has steadily increased with audiences of all ages. This group of tap dancers are all Long Islanders and range in age from 54 to 83. They are based at the Jan Martin Dance studio in Huntington Station. In 2011, the dance troupe had the exciting opportunity to audition for Paula Abdul’s Live to Dance program. They were one of 500 groups that originally auditioned who made the “short list” round, receiving gold stars.

Garden City residents will be given priority by presenting your Garden City Public Libary card at the program room door. Non-residents will be accommodated on a space available basis 10 minutes before show time. No saved seats. Limited parking. Please, no buses. Holiday Fellowship Luncheon

The Mineola-Garden City Rotary Club will be having its annual luncheon at the Garden City Hotel at noon. The Garden City High School Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform as led by choral director Amanda Conte. There will also be a 50/50 drawing with 50 percent of raffle sales going to the person whose ticket is drawn. All proceeds go to the good works of the Rotary. A Night In Bethlehem

From 7 to 9 p.m., Garden City’s Resurrection Lutheran Church will be hosting A Night in Bethlehem. Through this hands-on Holy Land experience, you’ll relive the time and place of Jesus’ birth. walk the re-created village, chat with the shopkeepers, and feel the excitement when the shepherds announce the good news of Jesus’ birth. Bring your friends and family and see what Christmas is all about. Resurrection is located at 420 Stewart Ave., near Clinton Road in Garden City. Also being held on Dec. 13. Chamber Music Society Performance

Marvelous Movie Matinée

A screening of the classic 1949 noir White Heat starring James Cagney and Virginia Mayo will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Garden City Public Library. The event will be held in Meeting Room B. Second Chance Toy Drive

The girls of Daisy Troop 1175 will be collecting gently-used toys for the organization Second Chance Toys. Second Chance Toys is an organization dedicated to keeping plastic toys out of landfills by donating them to children in need. The girls will be accepting plastic toys that are clean, are in working order, and have no missing or small parts (cannot fit through a toilet paper roll). So, clean out your basements in time for the holidays, and drop them off the Bonomis, 164 Willow St. in Garden City from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Any questions, please contact Denise Bonomi at 516-650-8556.

A Visit From Santa

Santa will visit the recreation office at 108 Rockaway Avenue for visits and photos on from 3 pm-4:15 p.m. Bring your cameras to take photos. There is no fee for a photo but a donation of a small gift for Toys for Tots would be appreciated. Kris Kringle will also be appearing on Thursday, Dec. 18. Wednesday, Dec. 17

Your Widowed Social Group

This is a non-sectarian, no-profit organization of widows and widowers 50 plus years of age. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month and are held at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church located on Franklin Avenue and Fifth Street in Garden City at 7:30 p.m. There is a nominal fee for members and non-members.
