The weather for this year’s 22nd annual edition of New York Blood Services Rob’s Run was nearly perfect for a late Fall cross country race, and the net result was a bunch of pretty impressive performances—and lots of enthusiasm—on the part of a record breaking 702 finishers who completed the 5 Kilometer course in and around Stillwell Woods in Woodbury on Nov. 30.
Northport High School superstar Mike Branningan led the field in a strong 15:30, followed by 2013 winner Chris Mammone who propelled his Bellmore Striders to top Men’s Open Team honors once again. Billy Holl of Team Tri Global was a determined third place, and Boyd Carrington repeated as the first master.
Victoria Kornieva of the Bellmore Striders scored top honors among the women, outkicking Lauren Jasinski by 15 seconds, with Jen Dagan a strong third, 15 seconds behind Lauren.
Top local finishers included 16-year-old Will Long of Syosset, who scored first in the 15-19 age group; Patty Santella of Syosset, who was the first place finisher among the women in the 45-49 age group; Kim Solomine of Syosset, who earned the third place award in the women’s 55-59 age group; Janet Healy and Pamela Lee of Syosset, who scored first and second respectively in the women’s 60-64 age group; and 87-year-old Bert Jablon of Syosset, who was the oldest finisher, scoring first in the 85 and over age group.
The Greater Long Island Running Club thanks the New York Blood Services for its sponsorship of the run once again. The club also thanks the Center for Developmental Disabilities and the Center’s executive director Nick Boba and director of development Debbie Patey for lending the use of the facilities at the center for race headquarters, to Syosset realtor Daniel Gale Sotheby and S&S Automotive Center of Syosset, the supporting sponsors of this year’s run in support of the center.
The Running Club congratulates co-directors of Rob’s Run Sue Fitzpatrick and Jim Murray for another job well done. Race organizers were thrilled to have Nassau County Legislator Rose Marie Walker and Oyster Bay Town Councilman Anthony Macagnone on hand to welcome the runners to Long Island’s largest cross country event.
