Frozen Yogurt With A Twist

Sixteen Handles opens up in Garden City

The coolest frozen yogurt chain recently made its debut in Garden City. 16 Handles found a new home at 3 Nassau Blvd. South just around the corner from Adelphi University.

According to store general manager Monte Henry, the plans to bring the frozen yogurt chain to the new location have been ongoing for about eight months. Henry notes a lack of many frozen dessert places nearby as a major reason for the decision to bring a 16 Handles to Nassau Boulevard.

“It’s something for the kids to do,” Henry said. “For the families to hang out. It’s a good environment.”

Although the summer season ending doesn’t usually bode well for frozen yogurt establishments, 16 Handles offers options for all seasons. Now at the handles, guests can find the popular seasonal pumpkin flavor, which is made with real pumpkin, to celebrate the fall season.

The artisanal coffee flavors, as well as popular staples like Tahitian vanilla and fudge brownie, also fill the environment with a wide variety of options.

Henry’s personal suggestion for customers is the salted caramel and the chocolate peppermint, which will be coming soon. When the weather becomes even colder, the location will offer up hot chocolate to pair with the frozen yogurt.

“We’re about to start Waffle Bowl Wednesday,” added Henry. “So, you can fill up a waffle bowl or a waffle cone with whatever you want for five dollars.”

According to Henry, the chain is just starting to let people know that they are here. They are already starting to make partnerships with a lot of organizations including the Girl Scouts and a variety of children’s organizations to begin fundraising activities soon.

16 Handles has a unique story in the tri-state area. The chain was founded in 2008 by food service industry expert Solomon Choi and was the first frozen yogurt store to have the self-serve concept in New York City. In addition to its new location in Garden City, the frozen yogurt establishment features three other locations on Long Island in Great Neck, Lynbrook and Port Washington.

Its roots in New York are not the only reason to stop by 16 Handles, according to Henry. The store encourages guests to “Flaunt Their Flavor,” and believes that their brand is the most fun you can find at a frozen yogurt establishment.

“Our guest services, our employees are way upbeat and fun,” Henry said when asked how 16 Handles stands out among everyone else. “Our quality of yogurt is really good and we provide a fun environment.”
