Roslyn resident Yariv Kafri, in conjunction with Supportersize organized a 5K trail walk/run set for Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Woodbury location of the Nassau Suffolk Greenbelt trail.

According to the organizers, Supportersize enables those affected by cancer to experience joy, solidarity and achievement through physical activities. Through such one-day athletic events in the area, the organization aims to empower such athletes with moments of happiness, strength, hope, and pride.

Yariv, the organizers added, is battling stage four lung cancer. He credits exercise and the outdoors in large part for his success in his fight against cancer. An accomplished athlete, he was a member of the Israeli National Volleyball team; he has competed in more than 30 Olympic and Ironman distance triathlons; and he is an avid yogi, surfer, skier and soccer player. One might expect a man in his position to take it easy this holiday season and focus on his own recovery.

Instead, Kafri is remaining busy, encouraging others living with cancer to participate in various athletic events through his organization. Supportersize events are free for people living with cancer. For more information, visit bit.ly/supportersizetrailwalk.
