Jackson Elementary School students recently participated in the NBA FIT Dribble, Dish & Swish program, which is a competition that provides boys and girls, ages 7-12, the opportunity to showcase their basketball skills against their peers in the Tri-State area.
Jackson boys and girls competed in separate age and gender divisions (ages 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12) and were timed on their ability to complete the basketball skills course which challenges the participants to dribble, pass, and shoot accurately, as quickly as possible.
At Jackson, physical education teachers Colleen O’Connell and James Woska started with more than 115 students and narrowed that down to 36 students for the finals.
Winners in each category were Rayna Goodkin and Justin Yu for the 7-8 year olds; Emily Goodkin and Dylan Snyder for the 9-10 year olds and Caroline Kalamotousakis and Pranav Dendukuri for the 11-12 year olds.
These students will participate in the regionals and the top two boys and girls in each age division from the Regional Competitions will advance to All-Star Finals for the head-to-head competition, which will be held in New York City in February during the NBA All-Star game.
