Peace Corps Presentation
At 11 a.m., Kelly Bonacci will discuss her experience in the Peace Corps in Madagascar during a presentation she will be moderating at the Garden City Public Library at the lower level in the large meeting room. Topics to include are life as a volunteer, business development, application process and different sectors of the Peace Corps. Garden City residents will be given priority by presenting their Garden City Public Library card at the program room door. Kicking Off 2015 With Fine Art
A group art show “The Rembrats 2015” will be exhibited in Garden City Public Library’s gallery from Jan. 5 through 30. View pastel portraits and landscapes created in various styles designed by students who study with award-winning instructor Arleen Rueth Urban. Participants will include artists from the Recreation Department of Garden City, the Garden City Community Club, as well as students from the instructor’s private studio. Resurrection Lutheran Church Blood Drive
To help replenish needed supplies, Resurrection Lutheran Church is hosting a blood drive from 3:15 to 9:15 p.m. in the church gym. As an extra thank-you, a pair of Mets tickets will be mailed to each presenting donor.
Most healthy adults can give blood every 56 days. A donor should be 16 to 75 years of age (16 year olds must have parental permission, and age 76 and over need a doctor’s note), weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health on the day of donation. Marvelous Movie Matinée
A screening of the 1954 Alfred Hitchcock classic Rear Window starring Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Garden City Public Library. Lego Drop-In Club
The Garden City Public Library’s Children’s Department will be holding a meeting for this monthly club that is for children in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. The club will meet on the following Wednesday afternoons from 4 to 5 p.m.: Feb. 4, March 4, April 1, and May 6. No registration is required, but space is limited. The Drop-In Lego Club was made possible through the generosity of the Friends of the Garden City Public Library as well as through Lego donations from library patrons.
