On Dec. 19, the Floral Park Recreation staff welcomed more than 100 children and parents to the Annual Recreation Christmas Tree Lightning. Prior to the traditional lighting ceremony, children enjoyed skating on the hockey rink while parents and friends enjoyed holiday music, hot chocolate and cookies.
The path leading to the tree and hockey rink were adorned with Christmas characters from the Grinch, and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.
Deputy Mayor James Rhatigan and Recreation Trustee Dominick Longobardi wished all a joyous and happy holiday season. A very smiley Ali, Connor and Ryan Kuntz pushed the official switch that lit up the beautifully decorated Christmas tree. After lighting the tree children were visited by Santa and two of his elves.
Elf Andrea Biendento and Elf Amy Kerrigan assisted Santa in handing out candy canes to happy boys and girls on a chilly Friday night. Santa and his elves were delighted to pose for pictures with all of the children.
Before Santa left he grabbed some cookies and hot chocolate and exclaimed, “I’ll be back on Christmas Day.”
Superintendent Kurt Meyfohrt and Assistant Tom Dillon would like to thank all their employees for another great year, and wish you all a happy and healthy New Year. The Floral Park Recreation Center will be open on New Year’s Eve from 8 a.m. to noon, along with the playground. The park will be closed on New Year’s Day.
