On March 6, the Sunrise Mall will say goodbye to Walmart.
The chain will close its doors at the Massapequa location in the early spring, after 12 years in the space. It currently spans two levels and 130,000-square-feet.
A spokesperson for Walmart stated that the chain plans to move towards fresh grocery items, a feat that is currently limited in the shopping mall. More than 300 employees were made aware of the closure, and will be offered jobs in other Walmart locations. For those who cannot relocate, a severance package will be provided.
