A former Bayville Fire Department volunteer firefighter has been arrested for allegedly burning down the historic Mill Pond House in Oyster Bay last year, Nassau County police said.

Christopher Zaino was charged Thursday with arson.

Arson/Bomb Squad detectives alleged that the 20-year-old set fire to the vacant, historic house, owned by the Town of Oyster Bay, on West Shore Road at 9:25 p.m. March 22, 2014.

Oyster Bay Fire Department firefighters extinguished the blaze with help from Atlantic Steamer, Locust Valley and Bayville fire departments.

Fire Marshall and Arson/Bomb squad detectives quickly determined that the fire had been intentionally set.

Zaino will be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
