Congratulations to the large contingent of athletes from Levittown who successfully completed the 27th Annual Carter, DeLuca, Farrell & Schmidt Ho Ho Ho Holiday 5K Run through the streets of Bethpage.
Two Levittown runners won awards at the run. Bill Fisher crossed the finish line at the John F. Kennedy Middle School in 19 minutes, 33 seconds to earn first place honors in the 60-64 age group. Jon Wallach scored in 19 minutes, 58 seconds, to win the third place award plaque in the 55-59 age group.
More than 1,100 athletes enjoyed the new fast, flat, one-loop course this year.
The run was coordinated by the Greater Long Island Running Club (GLIRC), with Ric DiVeglio serving once again as the director of the event.
Proceeds of the run will once again be given to the Dominican Sisters in support of The Opening Word, an education program that provides poor and uneducated Long island immigrant women the tools they need to become productive members of society.
In addition, thanks to the generosity of race participants, GLIRC collected more than 1,000 toys for distribution to needy Long Island children by the John Theissen Foundation.
