There is much excitement in the air as Children Dancing (from Dance Visions NY) is about to present its 27th annual Winter Showcase, including “Excerpts from A Nutcracker Tale and other Winter Dances” on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 5 p.m., at Huske Hall in All Saint’s Church at 855 Middle Neck Rd., in the Village of Great Neck. The public is welcome to enjoy this beautiful and joyful program, free of charge. Contact Beth Jucovy at 516-482-2621, or children.dancing@gmail.com for information. The website www.childrendancing.net can also be visited.
“A Nutcracker Tale 2015” begins with a magical snowstorm and a holiday party. At the party, odd Uncle Drosselmeyer presents Marie and her friends with a magical nutcracker, which they break.
The children go to sleep and dream all sorts of strange and wonderful dreams including: “Dolls Alive,” “The Moors” (from Nutcracker Suite), a note to my “Dear Future Husband” and a dream all about “Fame.” Performers include dancers from age seven through 16. Choreography and narration is by Beth Jucovy, school director.
Children Dancing and Dance Visions NY, Great Neck’s professional dance company (www.dancevisions ny.org), both under the direction of Jucovy, are housed at All Saint’s Church, 855 Middle Neck Rd., as well as at the other end of town on Horace Harding Boulevard.
Children Dancing
Children Dancing begins a new semester of classes on Feb. 1, with registration taking place now. Children Dancing provides quality dance education and fitness classes to developing minds and bodies of all ages (adults too). Sensitivity to students’ individual needs and learning styles help create a nurturing and joyful dance experience. Cognitive and social skills are developed along with heightened body awareness and physical skills, heightened artistic sensibilities and creativity. Dance technique, grace, musicality and individual expression are emphasized throughout the various classes. Classes are geared for aspiring professionals, as well as for all people, to experience the richness of dance as a dynamic and significant art form.
Current adult class offerings include body conditioning (the Nickolaus technique) and adult classical/creative dance workshops. Children are offered all levels of classical ballet, pointe, jazz/theater dance (ages 6 through 12). Creative dance/pre-ballet classes for young children are forming for this session.
Children Dancing was founded by Beth Jucovy in 1988. Jucovy teaches most of the classes and at times other highly qualified teachers teach specific techniques. Class offerings have evolved with the times, but the rich quality of the teaching and the philosophy has remained paramount. See www.childrendancing.net for registration information or contact Jucovy at 516-482-2621.
Dance Visions
Dance Visions was founded by Jucovy in 1990. In 2011 it became a not-for-profit organization. Devoted to keeping the Isadora Duncan dances and aesthetic alive and current, the company also presents unique, original works which express our shared humanity in our current times. Often works are site-specific or tailored for particular venues or audiences. Dance Visions brings pure dance works, dance/theater works and narrated, educational programs to local and wider audiences. It also offers workshops relating to the Dance Visions programs. The contemporary choreographers include Jucovy and, at times, other company dancer/choreographers.
