The Journey and Legacy of Theodore Roosevelt
Come to the POB Library auditorium at 2 p.m. and join Bill Reed, a volunteer at Sagamore Hill National Historic Site, as he shares the fascinating life story of Theodore Roosevelt, who went from sickly child to youngest President of the United States. Learn about his groundbreaking policies, many of which are still relevant today. Original illustrations, soon to be on display at the Theodore Roosevelt Museum at Sagamore Hill, will be featured in the library’s display case in late January.
Israeli Folk Dancing
Get your dancing shoes ready for some Iraeli folk dancing. Every Thursday morning at the American Legion Hall, 115 Southern Parkway, Plainview. Beginner class runs from 9:15-10:15 a.m., and the regular session runs from 10:15-12:30 p.m. Cost is $10. Contact Sandy at 516-382-4757 or email ziggy91357@aol.com.

Volunteers Needed
Start 2015 off right by volunteering with POB Cares and Project PACE. The two programs are currently recruiting volunteers ages 18 and older to help senior residents of Plainview-Old Bethpage. Volunteers are needed to drive clients to local medical appointments, do grocery shopping and minor home repairs. Contact volunteer coordinator Harriet Blatt at 516-822-3535 ext. 345.

Comedy Night
Temple Chaverim is hosting their 2nd Comedy Night beginning at 8 p.m. The night will include live music by The Lucky Chai Lounge Band along with comedians Sherry Davey, who has been named one of the “Top 10 Comedians in NYC,” Buddy Fitzpatrick, a regular on Comedy Central and Dan Wilson, who can be seen on MTV, HBO and ESPN. Glow Science with Mad Science of LI
Discover amazing things that glow bright in the dark. Take home and use your Mad Science Blacklight Writer to make secret messages that only you can see. There is a $2 materials fee per child, and they must be registered. For children grades K-5 from 2-3 p.m. in the Bethpage Public library meeting room and kitchen.

Broadway Showstoppers: A Musical Revue
Broadway Showstoppers is a professional musical revue featuring highlight moments everyone knows and loves from the most popular shows ever produced on the Great White Way, presented by a cast of incredibly talented performers. Songs like “Another Op’nin’ Another Show,” “Some Enchanted Evening,” “Lullaby of Broadway,” “I Could’ve Danced All Night,” “The Impossible Dream” and many more are guaranteed to have you humming and tapping your feet. Don’t miss this musical delight. All are invited ti attend and admission is free. Show runs from 2-3:30 p.m. in the Bethpage Public Library auditorium and lobby. Bethpage School District #21 residents will be seated first; out-of-area residents as space permits. A Bethpage Library card is a ticket of admission for the cardholder and a companion.

How to Pay Less Income Tax
Barry Lisak, an IRS enrolled agent, will present a lecture on how to help reduce federal and New York State income taxes. New Affordable Care Act tax provisions will be discussed, as well as all new federal and New York State tax laws enacted this year. Topics will include education, retirement, home ownership, charitable contributions, medical, investment, employee and miscellaneous deductions. There will be a question and answer period, where attendees will walk away feeling better about filling out their taxes. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend this lecture at the Bethpage Public Library auditorium from 7:30-9 p.m.

Les Petits Artistes
Calling all child artists. Bethpage children are invited to submit original artwork in the form of paintings, drawings and collages to be displayed in the library’s art gallery throughout the month of March. Make sure that your entry includes your name, phone number, address, school and grade on the back. One entry per child and for grades K-5 only. Sign up has already begun. Please bring all entries to the Bethpage Public Library on or before Friday, Feb. 6 for consideration.
