Stephen Adly Guirgis’ play The Motherf**ker with the Hat, was presented at Hofstra University last semester. Hofstra University student Sean Moran of Levittown played Cousin Juilo in this fast-moving, comedy-drama about the moral dilemmas caused by misplaced love and fidelity in the modern world.
Moran is a member of Hofstra University’s class of 2015, majoring in drama.
The play was directed by Hofstra Department of Drama and Dance Professor Royston Coppenger.
Coppenger said, “Stephen Adly Guirgis’ plays combine verbal brilliance and sharp wit with a keen eye for everyday characters whose lives haven’t lived up to their expectations. The Motherf**ker with the Hat isn’t exactly a comedy, although there are many ferociously funny moments. It isn’t exactly a drama, either, even though heartbreak and failure threaten to break through the characters’ defenses at every moment. The Motherf**ker with the Hat is a beautifully realized character study that gives voice to characters who all too often are ignored by other playwrights.”
