Rob Lang is a pure athlete, in every sense of the word. As a senior captain this winter on the Mineola boys’ track team, he is wrapping up an illustrious career that is as distinguished as it is diverse. Lang has been a major part of various varsity teams throughout his time at Mineola High School.
In four years, Lang was a member of 10 varsity teams, across various sports. In the fall, he was a crucial piece to the success of the football team, as their primary place kicker. This past season, Rob had the game-winning field goal kick in the Nassau County Championship semifinals against Locust Valley.
His consistent reliability during key moments of the playoffs earned him the offensive MVP award for the team’s 2015 playoff run. In the winter, Lang is a utility knife for the track team, competing in events that range from the 1000m, 1600m, 600m, 300m 4X400m relay, 4x800m relay, to even the shot put.
Lang posted an impressive time of 1:56.66 in the 600m, and is a triple-threat to score points in three different events at the conference championship.
In the spring and summer, Lang plays varsity baseball for Mineola and also travels with a private baseball team.
He also succeeds academically as a member of the honor roll and SADD Club. Lang looks to continue his track accomplishments as a business accounting major next year when he attends college. Lang’s versatility, work ethic and raw athleticism will be sorely missed.
