The Devine-Taglia and Williams families
will be recognized on March 5
The Church and Schools of St. Dominic will honor two outstanding and devoted families at the 26th annual Canivan Gala on March 5.
One of the honorees is the DeVine-Taglia family. As lifelong parishioners, the Church of St. Dominic has long been a part of the DeVine family lives. Karen’s parents, Dorothea and Francis, graduated from St. Dominic High School. Karen is a graduate of the elementary and high school Class of 1988 and is the owner of Francis P. DeVine Funeral Home, Inc. She is married to Philip M. Taglia, also a licensed funeral director, and the owner of Taglia, Lysak and Co., and Perry Funeral Home, Inc. Karen is currently secretary of the Nassau-Suffolk Funeral Directors Association.
Karen is the proud mother of two daughters, Sarah Rose, a 2014 graduate of St. Dominic High School and nursing student at Sacred Heart University, and Francesca, currently in the eighth grade at St. Dominic Elementary School. Phil is the father of three children: Melissa, Sara and Philip Jr., and the proud grandfather of six.
Karen is a Eucharistic Minister and an active supporter of Club 4:12. She has also served for four years as president of the IHM Guild. Karen is the current president of the Bayhawk Parent Association and sits on the high school advisory board. DeVine-Taglia is a former president of the Oyster Bay Rotary Club as well as past president of the Oyster Bay Chamber of Commerce. She currently serves on the board of OBEN Boys and Girls Club and actively supports the charitable organization Birthday Wishes of L.I.
The Williams family will also be honored at the gala. Cara and Luca Williams have been married for 14 years and reside in Bayville with their two children, Catherine, age 13 and Luca, age 9. They are devoted parishioners to the Church of St. Dominic and their children attend St. Dominic Elementary School.
Cara Williams grew up in Bayville and graduated from St. Dominic High School in 1988. She is a volunteer extraordinaire when it comes to St. Dominic Elementary School. Cara has been involved in all the elementary school fundraisers, including this year’s very successful Mother-Son event. Cara has been a member of the IHM Guild for the past eight years and has also served as treasurer and vice president.
Luca Williams grew up in Brookville, graduated Fairfield University in 1994 and founded Shadow Transport Inc. that same year. Shadow Transport is a rigging, machinery moving, transportation and warehouse company. He is also the owner and president of Nassau Stables, a thoroughbred horse breeding and racing organization. Luca has coached CYO basketball for the past eight years. An avid paddle tennis player and golfer, Luca currently serves on the board at Nassau Country Club. Both Luca and Cara have been key organizers of the St. Dominic Annual Golf Classic.
The Williams’ epitomize the saying, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Besides St. Dominic, they are involved in many charitable organizations including Belmont Child Care Association and St. Christopher Ottilie. They value the community in which they reside by supporting Raynham Hall, Friends of the Bay as well as events sponsored by the Town of Bayville.
