Dorothy Clemons Conover Myrie, loving wife, mother and adored teacher for nearly 40 years at Munsey Park School in Manhasset, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 21, 2015.
She was one of seven children born to her proud parents in West Virginia. She attended and received her degree in Early Childhood Education from Winston-Salem University in North Carolina.
She moved to New York with her family where she later met and married Alywin Neil Conover of Great Neck. From this union 3 children were born. She later met and married Winston G. Myrie and shared lots of fun times.
While raising her family, she had her own Day Care Center and later began her teaching career in the Manhasset/Great Neck School Systems. She instilled the value of education in her own children, as well as her students, and was determined to make the schools and community a better place for families that were less fortunate. Many positive changes took place as a result of her efforts.
She loved to read, cook, swim, walk, and entertain. She also loved yoga, aerobics, Zumba, line dancing, travelling, and Broadway plays. She was very active in her school, church, and community.
Dorothy was deeply loved and admired by her family. She is survived by her husband, Winston Myrie, 2 daughters Leontyne Anglin and Carissima Pettus and 1 son Pompeii Conover, 2 loving sisters Julia and Beatrice, 5 grandchildren Michael, Nicole, Tomar, Angela and Alicia, many cousins, nieces, and nephews whom she loved very much. She also leaves behind countless friends, neighbors, and generations of students whom she taught and truly cared for throughout the Manhasset and Great Neck communities for so many years.
Most importantly, Dorothy Clemons Conover Myrie has left us all a legacy of love.
