The North Shore Symphony Orchestra (NSSO) will present the second concert of its 54th season on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 8 p.m. at Plainview Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School, located at 50 Kennedy Dr.

This concert, titled “Czech Composers and Prague Connections,” focuses on the music of Czech composers Smetana and Dvorak and will include Smetana’s Overture to the Bartered Bride and Dvorak’s Romanze from his “Czech Suite” and Dvorak’s Cello Concerto, which will feature Jeong-Yoon Park, who is currently NSSO’s Principal Cellist. Also included in the program is Mozart’s Symphony No. 38 “Prague,” which was written especially for Mozart’s trip to Prague.

Conducted by NSSO’s music director and conductor Susan Deaver, this concert will bring together famous orchestra music and the talents of the 75-member North Shore Symphony Orchestra, Long Island’s most established community orchestra. Tickets, $15 for general admission, $12 for seniors and students, may be purchased at the door 30 minutes before the concert. Further information about North Shore Symphony Orchestra and the evening’s concert may be found on the orchestra’s website at www.northshoresymphonyorch.org or by calling 516-252.2712.

NSSO has been fortunate to have talented and experienced cellist Jeong-Yoon Park as its principal cellist. She was the featured soloist with NSSO in a solo performance of the Shostakovich Cello Concerto in 2012. Park comes to NSSO having trained and performed widely on the international music scene. Educated in South Korea and Germany, she holds a Ph.D. in music from the Hochschule fur Musik in Wuerzburg, Germany, a master’s from Detmold, Germany, and a bachelor’s degree from Seoul National University.

Park’s artistry has been recognized with several awards, including a first prize in the Korean Times Competition and the Tibor Varga Scholarship from the Swiss Lion’s Club. An active performer and recitalist, she has appeared with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, as principal cellist with the Seoul Metropolitan Orchestra, as soloist with the Seoul Metropolitan Youth Orchestra and with the Yewon Orchestra and Detmolder Kammerorchester. She has also been a faculty member in the Gloville Conservatory of Dongduk Women’s University and the Long Island Conservatory. This past summer she gave a cello master class as a guest artist at the LIU Post Chamber Music Festival.

The North Shore Symphony Orchestra, which is the orchestra-in-residence at Plainview Old Bethpage JFK High School, presents a series of four concerts each year, which includes performances of standard orchestral repertoire as well as newly commissioned contemporary pieces. Featured soloists have included promising young Long Island musicians, members of the New York Philharmonic and professional young musicians.

As North Shore Symphony Orchestra’s Music Director and Conductor, Susan Deaver has successfully established NSSO as one of Long Island’s foremost community orchestras. Selected to participate in Tanglewood’s Conducting Seminar Classes, Deaver has also conducted in Scotland, England, Spain and Germany where she was selected to conduct at the 2006 International Master Class in Orchestral Conducting sponsored by the Philharmonisches Kammerorchester Berlin.

Deaver is on the music faculty of Stony Brook University, LIU Post and the Manhattan School of Music’s Precollege Division as both flutist and chamber music coach.
