A Plainview graduate is being recognized for her singular talent.
Plainview-Old Bethpage School District John F. Kennedy High School’s class of 2014 graduate, Sharon Lee, was declared the only high school student in the world to receive a perfect score (earning every possible point) on the Advanced Placement (AP) Studio Art: 2D Design Portfolio Exam. The amazingly talented Lee currently attends New York University and is among 285 students worldwide to earn a perfect score on individual AP exams.
“We are grateful for this opportunity to showcase the extraordinary achievements of our students and the superb guidance of our staff,” said Plainview-Old Bethpage School District Superintendent Dr. Lorna Lewis. “We applaud Sharon Lee, her AP Studio Art teacher Wendy Ritholtz and all teachers, staff, family and friends that helped Sharon accomplish this great feat.”
The AP exam requires students to submit a total of 24 images of 24 separate works and five original pieces to demonstrate their understanding of design issues, design principles and investigation of a specific visual idea. Each piece is scored based on an extensive rubric and can receive a total of six points.
