Last Friday, the weather was typically cold and it took the Roslyn Bulldogs some time to shake off their own cold spell on the court, but they rallied in the second half to defeat Bethpage, 68-39 in Conference A-III action.
The Bulldogs ended the regular season with a Tuesday home game against Hewlett. As of press time, Roslyn is 12-5 overall and tied for second in conference action with a 7-3 mark. By Thursday, Feb. 12, the Bulldogs will know the playoff schedule. However, it is likely that Roslyn’s first playoff game will be Friday, Feb. 13 at a yet-to-be-determined site against a yet-to-be-determined squad. Those Roslyn fans who want to cheer on the Bulldogs in the playoffs can contact the Athletic Department at 516-801-5160 or the Public Relations department at 801-5090 for up-to-the-minute information.
In the win over Bethpage, Chris Duplessis knocked out a three-point shot with time running out in the second quarter to give Roslyn a 29-22 halftime lead. However, the Bulldogs came out cold in the third quarter, allowing a scrappy Bethpage team to catch up to Roslyn, eventually taking a 36-33 lead.
That momentum was snuffed out by a key three-point shot by Noah Nardone that tied the game and set the stage for Roslyn to pull ahead and win in a comfortable fashion. Two key jump shots by Sam Esmail, including a three-pointer helped to break the game open. In the final frame, Keandre Augustine got his game in high gear, scoring all of his nine points, including a three-pointer of his own.
Once again, Roslyn had a well-balanced attack with Nardone leading the way with 10 points, while Augustine, Esmail and Matt Kramer all scoring nine points each. Omar Burns added eight points, Duplessis had seven points and Marc Shulman had six points, while playing a strong game in the middle.
