Emily Lipari isn’t the only recent Roslyn High School athlete to enjoy great success on the track field. Scott Pourshalchi, who is graduating this spring, has been a star athlete for the Bulldog track team throughout his time at the high school.

Pourshalchi will begin his college career next fall at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, where he has committed to continue running cross country track, while pursuing his studies in biomaterials engineering.

From 2012-’15, Pourshalchi ran track for the varsity squad. Right from the beginning, he was recognized as one of the top cross-country and long-distance talents in Nassau County. In 2012, he was named All Conference, a Most Improved Runner, a Most Valuable Runner and the Class B county champion in the 1,000-meter run.

In 2013, Pourshalchi, once again, was named an All Conference runner, while receiving more Most Improved Runner and Most Valuable Runner honors. He was captain of the Bulldogs’ varsity cross-country team and was also named an All County runner.

The year 2014 brought more success. Pourshalchi racked up wins in the Nassau County Class AA 800-meter and 1,600-meter runs, while also becoming champion in the Nassau County Conference 4 1,000-meter and 1,600-meter competitions. He also regained his title as the champion runner in the Nassau County Class B 1,000-meter run.

Finally, in 2015, Pourshalchi won his third Nassau County Class B 1,000-meter run, while being named, once again, as captain of the varsity indoor track team. Off the field, Pourshalchi has maintained a 97.2 grade point average and has been a National Honor Society, World Language Honor Society and an AP Scholar with Distinction.

In 2013 and 2014, he was pit captain for the award-winning Roslyn High School Marching Band. Pourshalchi has been part of the Roslyn High School Student Government, a member of Athletes Helping Athletes, the Math Team and the Wind Ensemble, where he played bassoon in the first chair.

“Scott has had very humbly and quietly one of the most stellar careers a runner has ever had at Roslyn High School,” said Dr. Kevin Kearney, Pourshalchi’s track coach. “He is one of the best competitors and fiercest racers that I’ve ever encountered in my 50 years of running and coaching track. He has the respect of all the competitors and coaches in the county, he’s that good and that good of a person.”
