Mineola High School’s Tony Macchietto earned All-State honors as he finished in second place at the Nassau County Qualifying Tournament.
Macchietto series’ total of 1,194 for six games bowled, leaving him with a 199 average. He started the day off slow rolling scores of 178 and 168 to put him in tenth place after two games.
In the third game, Macchietto kept the score sheet clean as he marked in every frame and finished with a 207. This resulted in his moving up to fifth place. Macchietto’s fourth game was his best as he rolled a 224 and twice threw three strikes in a row.
Macchietto moved into second place after this game and came back with a solid 210 effort. Although he dropped to third, Macchietto had a 86 pin cushion on the sixth frame and final spot for the All-State team.
In the final game, the sophomore held it together to leave only one open frame. Macchietto made a tough 4-9 split to start the game and then finished by throwing three strikes in the tenth to finish with the 207 score.
The state tournament will be held in the first weekend in March in Syracuse. Macchietto becomes only the second male Mineola bowler in the last 15 years to make it to the states.
