Southampton Man Sentenced for Fatal DWI Crash

A 21-year-old man was sentenced Friday to four to 12 years in prison for a drunken-driving crash that killed a 29-year-old Florida man in the driver’s hometown of Southampton last year.

Jesse Werner Steudte had pleaded guilty before Judge Fernando Camacho at Suffolk County court to charges of manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated.

Prosecutors said Steudte ran a red light before he struck Neil Fyfe, who was crossing County Road 39 at the corner of Sandy Hollow Road on the night of Friday, May 2, 2014.

Fyfe, who was employed as a caddy at a Southampton golf course, was taken to Southampton Hospital, where he died.
