Watertree Health and Make-A-Wish America announced that Make-A-Wish Metro New York and Western New York, one of the 61 Make-A-Wish chapters nationwide, will receive donations as part of a groundbreaking national alliance. Each time someone saves money using the prescription discount card benefitting Make-A-Wish, Watertree Health donates 50 cents to the organization. The money raised from use of the discount card will be distributed to the local chapter that grants wishes in that area of the country.
Make-A-Wish and Watertree Health recently announced the formation of a nationwide program to help accomplish two critical goals: increase the number of people who can afford their prescriptions and help grant more wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions. The national alliance was formed after a successful test program with chapters in Arizona, Central and Northern Florida, and Nebraska.
To date, for just these three initial chapters, the program has raised almost $90,000 to help create life-changing experiences for wish kids. This initiative will now be able to benefit chapters nationwide, including Make-A-Wish Metro and Western New York.
“The success we have seen in our pilot program is astounding,” said Watertree Health President Shane Power. “We know that by rolling this program out across the country, we can help more people save money while at the same time grant the wishes of some amazing children in the community. It’s a win-win all around.”
“This alliance gives individuals the rare opportunity to help others while they help themselves,” said David Williams, Make-A-Wish America president and CEO. “As more people use discount cards to get discounted prescriptions, more wish kids will get the chance to experience the power and positivity that comes from having their one true wish granted.”
The prescription discount card, administered by Watertree Health, is free and available to everyone. It is accepted at over 60,000 pharmacies across the country (including national, regional and local pharmacies such as CVS, Duane Reade, Rite Aid, Walmart and Walgreens), and reduces the price of brand name and generic prescriptions by as much as 75 percent. The card can be used by individuals to complement a health insurance plan—to help fill in gaps, or who do not have health coverage.
Cardiac, hypothyroid, stomach acid, asthma and migraine medications are among the many commonly-prescribed drugs that can be discounted by using the prescription discount card.
