Movie: The Judge

The Plainview library presents two showings, 2:30 and 7 p.m., of The Judge. Hank Palmer (Robert Downey Jr.), an urban lawyer, heads back to his rural home when his father, a judge (Robert Duvall) is implicated as a murder suspect. As Palmer attempts to find the truth, he begins to reconnect with his estranged family. Also featured are Vera Farmiga, Vincent D’Onofrio and Billy Bob Thornton.

Purim Celebration

Join Temple Or Elohim, 18 Tobie Lane in Jericho, for a Purim celebration with a musical Shabbat evening service at 7:30 p.m featuring Rabbi Abramowitz and Cantor Katz. Come in costume to be a part of the Purim parade.

Over The Rainbow Craft Workshop

The Bethpage library welcomes the public to join artist and craft specialist Joanne Manning at 2 p.m. Come to this unique art program and create your own pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. We will provide lots of glittery materials to use to decorate your project. There is a $2 materials fee per child. For children in grades K-5.

Organ Concert

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 99 Central Park Rd. in Plainview, is proud to present Amelia Javorina for a very special organ concert at 4 p.m. An accomplished organist, pianist, music theory instructor, and choral director with more than 25 years of experience in teaching children and adults, Javorina has performed both solo and chamber music concerts throughout Europe. She studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Austria, as well as the Conservatoire de Musique, in Geneva, Switzerland. Tickets: $7 in advance; $10 at the door; ages 16 and under: free; ages 90 and older: free.

Purim Carnival

Temple Or Elohim, 18 Tobie Lane in Jericho, welcomes attendees from far and wide for it’s Purim Carnival. The festivities kick off with a living wax museum at 11 a.m., followed by the carnival at 11:30 a.m. The event is open to everyone and attendees are encouraged to bring a friend. There will be games, prizes, raffles, food, DJ, music and a bounce house. Admission is free. Children attending in costume will receive one free game ticket.


Wednesday, March 11

Movie: This Is Where I Leave You

The Plainview library screens This is Where I Leave You at 2:30 and 7 p.m. In this comedy, when their father dies, four grown siblings are forced to return to their childhood home and live under the same roof together for a week, along with their over-sharing mother (Jane Fonda) and an assortment of spouses, exes and might-have-beens. Also featured are Tina Fey and Jason Bateman. Rated R. 1 hour 43 minutes.

Chess For Kids

At the Bethpage library at 2 p.m. Presented by the Long Island Chess Nuts, a scholastic organization promoting educational and positive benefits of chess to children, comes this event for grades two through five. Take part in this outstanding chess club. A Long Island Chess Nuts top-qualified coach will teach you how to play chess and show you tips and strategies of the game. Play with your fellow club members and enjoy the fascinating game of chess. There is a $2 program fee per child.

New Beginnings Singles

Join social worker and television talk show host of The Relationship Journey, Marla Matthews at the Plainview library at 3 p.m., in a discussion, social and support group for divorced, widowed and single adults over 50 who would like a new beginning. Make new friends, network and learn new skills towards reinventing yourself, with inspiration and hope for the future. Event takes place in room E.

Taize Service

Good Shepard Lutheran Church, 99 Central Park Rd. in Plainview, welcomes attendees to a Taize service at 7 p.m. A Taize service is a candle-lit service that is meditative in nature. It consists of quiet singing (short songs repeated again and again), scripture, silence for meditating (a time to reflect on whatever word or phrase touches ones heart) and prayer.
